Missouri has already passed a law that requires sports betting to go live by 1 December 2025. The voters had their say in November 2024, with the margin of victory being a particularly close one, just 7,486 votes out of 2.9 million total votes cast on the subject.
21 digital sports betting licences will be available in the state. Each of the states’ pro sports teams will have one, 13 tied to the state’s casinos and the other two will be standalone licences.
However, several brands such as bet365, DraftKings and FanDuel have existing business partnerships with organisations that already operate in the state, such as casinos or sports betting teams so the total number of licences issued could be higher.
In total, 25 states have banned athletes or coaching from wagering, either in person or through a third party. Most of these will hold the sportsbook in question responsible if such a person is able to place bets, but four of them also include penalties for the person involved as well.
